Sivanmalai Murugan Temple
Sivan Malai Temple is a revered Hindu temple located atop Sivan Malai (Sivan Hill) near Kangeyam in the Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu, India. Sivanmalai Murugan Temple History
Tiruppur District, Kangayam Circle, Sivanmalai, Arulmigu Subramaniaswamy temple is situated in Kongu Nadu, Kangayam Vala Nadu, between Kangayam and Tiruppur at a distance of 3 kilometres from Kangayam. This temple is a hill temple with 496 steps. It is 400 feet above sea level. There is a two-kilometre hilly road for vehicles to reach this temple. It is an ancient temple. This mountain is worshipped as Sivamalai to signify that Shiva and kandhan are not different.
Sivamalai has various features such as an idol place, tirtha, and things kept as per God’s order for a reason and also has great mythological and historical significance. This mountain is a small piece that fell from the Himalayas when Lord Shiva bent the Himalayas into a bow and tried to destroy the demons. When Sri Anjaneyar carried Sanjeevi hill many times fell and so it is called mamalai.
This mountain is called Pon Hill in the first Yuga, Silver Hill in the Second Yuga, Copper Hill in the Third Yuga, and Stone Hill in the Kali Yuga, so it is called Kamarupa Jyoti Giri. As Umayamma had done her penance on this hill, it is called Shaktisivamalai. It is also called by various names.
Behind this mountain, there is a place called Pattaliyur which is 4 km away. The son of Lord Shiva in this place is known as Sri Sivasalapati in Moolasthana with valliammaii. The Vallidevasena Ambal shrine is located separately. In Utsavar Valli Devasena is seen Subramaniyar is a married couple in Utsavar and the mandapam there is a shrine of Sri Nataraja (Bronze idol) and Sri Sivakamiyamman shrine and Utsava murthies near the hall. Shirne sarving of Sidhar Siva Vakiyar worshipping Lord Muruga near Sri Natarajar shrine at the entrance with 2 Dwara Balakars nine soldiers, Stateies are seen also there is Sri Suraloka Nayaki with Sri Suralokanathar Swamy shrine as the deity worshipped to cure fever in humans.
In front of the temple, there is a flag pole. Ganesha shrine, Sri Surya in the prakaram and a Ganesha shrine under a tamarind tree which has been there for many years. Also on the right side of the shrine,e there is the Shri Gnanambikai and Shri Kailasanathar shrines. On the south side, there is the shrine of Dakshinamurthy. There are Kannimula Ganapati in the southwest direction, Gnana Thandayuthapani shrine in the northwest, Sri Durgai and Sri Sumitra Sandar shrines in the north.
There is also a shrine of Nava Kannikai where the curse caused by Ambika related to this myth is removed and the Nava Kannikai are worshipped. There is a Torati (Hydno carpus wightianus) (Botanical Name) tree at the back. To the east is the separate shrine of Lord Saturn like Tirunallar. According to Agama method, the Navagraha shrine is located in the position where all the planets are facing the Sun. There is an ancient Shree Bhairava shrine known as Shetrapalar. Outside there is a Deepastambam where the lamp is lit on the day of Karthika Deepam. At the lower part is the Pipal tree and Neem tree Ganesha shrine. While climbing the steps, there is a step Ganesha shrine.
Lord Muruga the Ganges from the city of Kashi near Nandavan behind the hill when a maid called Sadaichi, who was doing thiruvalaku in this temple, wanted to bathe in the Ganga in Kashi. At present it is hailed as Attha Kulam. There is also a Sadaichiyamman shrine at that place. It is also a mountain that includes various theerthas like Agathiya Theertha, Indra Theertha, Mangala Theertha, Veera Theertha and Pramananda Theertha. This is a hill full of various miracles like Khana Sunai, and Karu Nochi. Theppakulam at this place is equivalent to Saravanapoigai.
Nagudan worshipped Lord Muruga on this mountain to remove his curse and got success. The most powerful Hanuman who wats to destroy the demons is seated behind and blesses the devotes who pray for their good health mountain with a shrine with a separate temple. Sage Agathiya worshipped Lord Muruga on this mountain and got preaching of a six-syllable mantra from lord Muruga Indra the head of the gods, worshiped Lord Muruga and gained fame for his Lord. Goddess Saraswati who worshiped Lord Muruga got a boon. And various sages, Ganas, devas and rishis worshipped the famous is provided all devotees Sri Sivasalapati Muruga. During the star Thaipusa Chariot festival annadhanam food is provided all devotees around the hill. This Tiruthala Murthy also has the special name of Annadana Sivasalapati.
Everyday pooja Five times of pooja are held here with the sixth pooja called palliyarai pooja. For this pooja Shivacharyas climb 496 steps to bring the tirtha and perform the pooja. Also, Poojas Abhishekam, decoration, Neivetiyam, Utsavam, etc., are regularly conducted by six people from Kasipha Gotra, who came from the tradition of Palaniiyar. This can be known through Sivamalai Kuravanji and Sthala Purana. The speciality in this temple is the orders to keep the things in the box.
Lord Muruga appears in the dreams of the devotees and gives orders to keep the things in the box. When the devotees come to present it to the Lord, they ask permission with a flower and put it in the order box. Things kept in the box will be good or bad in the world. Therefore god is called the God of reason because his impact foretells the following. There was an increase in the price of turmeric when Pooja was done with turmeric. When the pooja was performed with a bicycle, its use decreased. Tsunami occurred while performing pooja with water. When pooja was performed with soil, the price of earth increased. When the festival of Skandasashti and Thaipusa chariot festival are held in this temple, Lord Muruga Utsavar rises at the foot of Nanjundeswarar temple blesses the devotees.
