Muthumalai Murugan Temple
While Muthumalai Murugan Temple is located in Putrakaundanpalayam suburb of Ettapur area in Salem district of Tamil Nadu. The temple has the world’s tallest idol of Murugan with a height of 111 feet and the plinth is 35 feet high, making the total height 146 feet.
Muthumalai Murugan Temple History
In 2014, Mr. Sridhar from Attur envisioned building a grand temple dedicated to Lord Murugan on his own land. His devotion led him to plan not only the temple but also an impressive Murugan statue, with the aim of creating a remarkable place of worship.
The foundation stone (Bhoomi Pooja) for this temple was laid on March 13, 2016, marking the official start of construction. To bring his vision to life, Mr. Sridhar collaborated with renowned sculptor Thiruvarur Thiagarajan, known for crafting a 140-foot Murugan statue in Malaysia in 2006.
The temple features Murugan statues thoughtfully crafted to represent the deity’s various postures as seen at the six sacred abodes, known as the Aarupadai Veedu, which hold great significance in Murugan worship. Each statue showcases a distinct aspect of Lord Murugan’s revered forms from these holy sites.

Sri Muthumalai Murugan Temple Kumbabishekam
On April 6, 2022, the grand Kumbabishekam ceremony of the Sri Muthumalai Murugan Temple took place, drawing an extraordinary crowd of over 300,000 devotees. This sacred event was preceded by 48 continuous days of Yagam, performed with deep devotion and spiritual dedication.
The rituals were conducted by Thiruvarur Sundaramoorthi Sivasachariyar, along with a team of priests, enhancing the spiritual ambiance. The holy water for the Kumbabishekam arrived in a grand procession, accompanied by the vibrant rhythms of traditional music and instruments, creating a deeply auspicious atmosphere.
The ceremony reached its climax with the consecration of the impressive 146-foot Muthumalai Murugan statue, followed by a dramatic showering of flowers from a helicopter, enhancing the divine aura. After the consecration, the sacred water was sprinkled over the vast assembly of devotees, spreading blessings and sanctity to all who had gathered.
