The Vennaimalai Murugan Temple, dedicated to Lord Balasubramaniyaswamy, also known as Lord Murugan, is a significant religious site located on the Karur to Pugalur main road in Tamil Nadu. Vennaimalai Murugan Temple History
The temple has a distinct three-tiered Rajagopuram (main gateway tower) and a Dwajasthambam (flagstaff) situated prominently in front of the temple complex. A unique architectural feature of this temple is the orientation of the sanctum sanctorum, which faces the northwest, an unusual direction for Hindu temples. The temple’s architecture blends simplicity with traditional Tamil temple aesthetics, making it both welcoming and spiritually uplifting.
History has it that the milk of Kamadenu cow was compressed at this point and it turned into butter. It is also said that Kamadenu created a theertham for Shivan to quench the thirst of the living beings and it is also known as Thenu theertham.
Apart from Lord Murugan, the temple houses idols of Lord Kasi Viswanathar and Goddess Visalakshi, attracting devotees who specifically come to seek blessings from these deities. The temple also has a sacred tank known as Thenu Theertham, where devotees perform rituals and seek purification before entering the temple.
